My name is Heidi, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 10 years of experience working in community mental health. I began my professional journey 15 years ago helping people achieve their goals – beginning as a student leader at Portland State University in the residence halls, with programs aimed at supporting non-traditional, first generation, low-income college students, and with research-based student mentorship programs aiming to assist former foster youth accomplish goals in higher education. I have experience with the administrative and research side of this work as well as with direct service providing case management, coaching, assessment, treatment planning/goal setting, and psychotherapy, in one-on-one and therapeutic group settings. I believe in health-equity, anti-oppressive, anti-racist practices. I identify as someone who is a first-generation college student, having come from a low-income background with other added unique adversities.
With Healing Forward PDX I want to help more people achieve their goals, address mental health challenges, helping identify and remove barriers to their success. I have several years of experience working with people overcoming the complex effects and challenges of trauma, addiction, attachment difficulties, adjustment related concerns, depression, anxiety, aging, grief and loss, and severe mental health conditions. I have a deep personal understanding of how poverty and trauma impact a person’s overall wellbeing quality of life.
I use evidenced-based approaches, CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy – a specific type of CBT), trauma-focused approaches (emotion processing, narrative therapy, psychoeducation, empowerment, mindfulness, body-centered interventions), solution-focused brief interventions, positive psychology to enhance motivation, and a good amount of self-exploration to enhance insight into one’s truest deepest self. I tailor my approach to each individual’s needs, strengths, and personality traits.
Thanks for visiting, I wish you the best on your journey.
